Derek Perkins 28th February 2009 - Par 3 161 mtr 16th hole at Maylands

Comments: I’ve been thinking about how that shot felt and think I can best describe it as follows – It’s as if ‘somebody’ or ‘something’ took over my arms and legs and the energy flowed freely from club to ball. It (ball) flew high in the sky and dropped down a few feet in front of the flag, ran along a few feet and the disappeared down the hole!!

Thomas Wilkinson 1st March 2014 - Par 3 161 mtr 16th hole at Maylands

Comments: Quite frankly I was happy that the shot didn’t get pulled to the right hand side trees which is where I had been for the past 10 weeks or so. I never imagined it falling in the cup.

From the tee, I never believed that the ball was in the hole until I picked it out the cup. I knew it was in the hole from the tee but for some reason the moment never sunk in.

The Shot - For those that weren’t there the shot was at a slightly faded four hybrid playing the full 160m with the pin on the front right edge of the green. The ball after bouncing on the front fairway about 5m short kept rolling to the hole. There was a couple of seconds gap by the time I thought the ball had stopped just short of the hole and when the ball went in the cup.

Terry Laidler 29th March 2014 - Par 3 161 mtr 16th hole at Maylands

Comments: After an 18month layoff from golf due to a crook shoulder, apart from a couple of well lubricated social Ambroses, I was looking forward to the walk by the river with some good blokes. I set my golfing expectations low and just hoped I would be able to play a couple of good shots.

After three-putting the 15th for a boggy I saw the closest-to-the-pin marker still on the 16th tee and thought here is a chance to pull out a good shot.

I aimed two meters left of the pin and hit a high 6 iron with a slight fade. It landed on the green 2 meters short of the pin, tracked towards the hole and we saw it suddenly disappear.

From the tee we were 99% sure it went in, but the 1% possibility that it was siting directly behind the pin subdued the high fives just a little. There was no ball to be seen as we walked onto the green – yep it must be in the cup YAHOOOOOO!!!!!
It was a good looking golf shot however we all know a hole-in-one is extremely rare and there is a great element of luck involved.

Phil Davies 21st September 2019 - Par 3 140 mtr 3rd Hole on Hillview Classic Course

Comments: My first hole in one and the subdued celebrations were delayed as we were not sure where the ball had actually stopped until we walked up to the green. It was a perfect morning for golf, the sun was shining and wind was calm. The white tee markers were 142m from the pin, that was positioned right of centre on a green that slopes predominantly from right to left on that side. I thought it best to hit a solid 8-iron, so I took aim for centre of green and hit a high cut that landed just off the right edge, beyond a grass mound, the ball took a favourable bounce and an even better roll down the natural slope of the green until it found its way to the hole. I got the feeling that my playing partners, Charlie and Nunzio, were more excited than me initially but once I realised what had happened, I was pretty happy too!

Brad Allbeury 20th March 2021 - Par 3 127 mtr 8th Hole at Embleton Golf Course

Comments: I was teeing up for the 8th hole when Matthew and Steve Bodeker pointed out I had teed up in front of the tee box, so I repositioned to the correct area. I then swung my pitching wedge hitting the ball which landed an inch past the hole. Due to the back spin generated, the ball went backwards and landed in the hole. I'm sure anyone who witnessed this could tell you how shocked and happy I was by the result.

Bernie Durkin 18th March 2023 - Par 3 133 mtr 1st hole at Embleton GC

We were playing in a 3 club challenge so I used my 4 iron on the shot and held back just slightly. Hit the ball cleanly which was just to the right of the pin and drifted in to be directly on line. I thought that I may have gone through however when we could not find the ball long Brad Allbeury decided to look in the hole and there it was. It is a very exciting experience.
